2012 NFL Playoffs Schedule

2012 NFL Playoffs are underway. Find the gane time schedules, previews and predictions at NFL Playoffs Schedule 2012 Game Times Previews Predictions.

NFL Playoff Picture

The NFL Football Playoff Picture for the 2010-2011 Football Season is set. The New England Patriots are the #1 Seed in the AFC Conference with a league best record of 14-2. The Atlanta Falcons are the NFC #1 seed at 13-3.

Both teams will hold the home-field advantage throughout in their conference playoffs and have a bye for the first weekend of the playoffs.

The AFC Conference playoff picture will have the New England Patriots, Pittsburgh Steelers, Indianapolis Colts and Kansas City Chiefs as the division winners. The Baltimore Ravens and New York Jets have the wild card positions.

The NFC Conference playoff picture will have the Atlanta Falcons, Chicago Bears, Philadelphia Eagles and Seattle Seahawks as the division winners. The New Orleans Saints and Green Bay Packers are the wild card teams.

The NFL Playoffs will open with the Wild Card games by both conferences the weekend of January 8th and 9th. The winners of these games will advance to play in the Divisional round of the playoffs the following weekend.

Week 17 Key Highlights-Final Regular Season Game

The NFC West featured the St. Louis Rams (7-8) and the Seattle Seahawks (6-9) playing for the Division title. The Seattle Seahawks won the game to become the first division winner with a losing record and a playoff spot.

In the NFC there were 5 teams still in the playoff hunt before the games were played.  The Green Bay Packers clinched the final wild card playoff spot by defeating the NFC North winner Chicago Bears. The Bears win knocked the New York Giants and Tampa Bay Buccaneers out of the playoff picture.

The remaining NFL playoff positions were set in the AFC conference after Sunday’s games. The Indianapolis Colts clinched the AFC South to secure a playoff berth. The Pittsburgh Steelers claimed the AFC North division Championship with their win over the Cleveland Browns. The Steelers win lands the Baltimore Ravens in the wild card position with a team record of 12-4.

Brett Favre was inactive for what appears to be his last NFL game ever. After the game he spoke with reporters and stated he knew it was time. It was a great ride, but it is time. Is this the last we will see of Brett Favre in the NFL as a player?

Black Monday in the NFL had its first Head Coach firing in Eric Mangini of the Cleveland Browns. John Fox coached his last game as the head coach of the Carolina Panthers on Sunday.

As the week progresses there will be more reports of head coaching and staff changes among several NFL teams.

The Atlanta Falcons and the Chicago Bears will have the bye for the wild card weekend in the NFC conference. The Philadelphia Eagles as the #3 seed will host the #6 see Green bay Packers.

The Seattle Seahawks are the #4 seed and will host the New Orleans Saints. Even though Seattle has a losing record (7-9) they host a playoff game since they were a division winner.

NFC Wild Card Playoff Predictions

New Orleans Saints @ Seattle Seahawks- The defending Super Bowl Champs, New Orleans Saints, will come out strong in this game to silence the home crowd of the Seattle Seahawks. The Seahawks may keep it close for a half, but Drew Brees will have a field day with a weak Seahawks pass defense. Look for Reggie Bush to be a huge part of the offense.

New Orleans-27 / Seattle 13

Green Bay Packers @ Philadelphia Eagles- This could be the best game of the Wild Card weekend.  Aaron Rodgers and receivers vs Michael Vick and his explosive receivers. This game may turn into more of a defensive battle for the first half of the game. The Packers lack of a running game will cost them in this game.

AFC Wild Card Playoff Predictions

New York Jets @ Indianapolis Colts-The NY Jets will try to pressure Peyton Manning to slow the Colts passing game and run the ball to keep Manning off the field. Peyton will find ways to get the ball to his receivers in the slant post and crossing routes to get past the Jets.

Indianapolis-34 / New York-24

Baltimore Ravens @ Kansas City Chiefs- The Kansas City Chiefs will want to run the ball with their #1 rushing attack of Jamaal Charles and Thomas Jones. The Baltimore Ravens defense will slow down this combo and look for Ed Reed and Terrell Suggs to give fits to Matt Cassel.

5. New York Jets-(11-5)

6. Kansas City Chiefs-(10-6)

NFL Playoffs Power Rankings

1. New England Patriots- Tom Brady and the offense have been unstoppable the last half of the season. The defense is suspect and will have to step up in the playoffs.

2. Atlanta Falcons- Home-field throughout the NFC playoffs will make it hard for anyone to stop the Falcons. The Falcons are playing at a high level on both sides of the ball.

3. New Orleans Saints- The Saints have an improved defense to go with the offense. Look for the Saints to get the running game going in the playoffs.

4. Pittsburgh Steelers- Defense is Key to this team. The Steelers could challenge the Patriots for the AFC Title. The Steelers would love to have another shot at Brady and that offense.

5. Baltimore Ravens- The Ravens are balanced on offense and defense. Could go all the way with this team. The team needs to better protect a lead late in the game.

6. Chicago Bears- The Bears have been under the radar all season. They have a smothering defense that can take over a game. The offense is coming together at the right time.

7. Philadelphia Eagles- A very explosive team with Michael Vick and his receivers. offensive line needs to better protect Vick to protect him from all the hits he is taking.

8. Indianapolis Colts- The Colts have shown some life with their running game and rush defense. Peyton Manning will need to avoid interceptions for a deep playoff run.

9. Green Bay Packers- The Packers are the "sleeper" team in this year's playoffs. Their defense has been tremendous and Rodgers and the receivers are dangerous. The lack of any running game could be their downfall.

10. New York Jets- The Jets need Mark Sanchez to step up his game in the offense. He is up and down. The Colts will be too much for the Jets in the wild card game.

11. Kansas City Chiefs- The best running game in the NFL this year.Matt Cassell will have a tough time with the Ravens defense in the wild card game.

12. Seattle Seahawks- They won their division. A losing record. No pressure. The surprise upset? Nah...one game and out.

Road to the SuperBowl XLV

Sunday, February 6th, 2011-Arlington,Texas at the Cowboys Stadium will be the site of Super Bowl XLV (45). Who will make that great Playoff run and play for the NFL Football Championship?

In Super Bowl XLIV the New Orleans Saints beat the Indianapolis Colts for their first ever Championship. Can these two teams make it back to the big game or will it be one or two different teams?

This year in NFL Football it has been a wild season with surprises all season long. A few of the NFL Teams favored to have a shot at the Super Bowl have collapsed and a few teams thought to be last place are in the running for a divisional title.

The NFL Playoff Race for the 2010-2011 football season promises to be very exciting and surprising for the avid NFL fan.

I am a huge Green Bay Packers fan, but their lack of a running game cost them against Atlanta and will likely be their downfall either in the playoff race or in a playoff appearance.

With that being said, if they do make the playoffs, I would almost rather they play on the road since I don't know if their passing game is conducive to the cold weather in Wisconsin that time of year.

Very good point! A fair weather environment or a Dome game would benefit the Green Bay offense come playoff time.

This weekend will be huge for football fans. The Jets/Patriots, Steelers/Ravens games will give the winner a leg up on the Division races. They will be exciting to watch as well.

I do plan to *Update the standings each week.

Thank you, Michael, for being the one to point out the Packers' lack of a running game which will eventually catch up with them. I'm surprised it hasn't already. Several of these so-called "expert analysts" fail to mention this fact when talking about the Packers and their chances of making the playoffs. I took my Steelers in my pick 'em pool this week although it would not surprise me if the Ravens swept them with Big Ben not practicing all week.

Great hub! As usual, I enjoy your NFL hubs!

The Steelers and Ravens game was what I expected. It was a a battle to the very end. Big Ben got his nose broken, but continued to play. There were hard hits all over the field.

I was surprised at the New York Jets losing the way they did at New England, but they will be back. The Patriots are really in sync right now.

Great piece Michael... All of your information and stats are awesome. I am a Kansas City fan so its nice this year seeing them still in the hunt. I was wondering if you could give me any advice or pointer on how to make my articles better and to get more people to read them?

Hi Michael, Yeah, Cleveland Browns might upset the Steelers, hope not...Nice updates BTW..

Hey Maita! The Steelers last 4 games are not that difficult on paper. The NY Jets game is the toughest. Cleveland has beat a few quality teams. They ran all over New England. Cleveland could be dangerous to any team they play right now.

Kern...hello and thanks. I will look at your hubs and see if I have any suggestions.

what if the Saints win out and beat the falcons, and both teams have the same records, Who get home field, how will that work?

Michael Willis profile image

If New Orleans won out, then Atlanta and New Orleans would both be 13-3 overall. Teams would be even in head-to-head. Both 5-1 in division, 9-3 in NFC Conference and 7-2 in common opponents. Still tied.

This is where the "Tie-Breaker" procedures of the NFL would go further. And since the season is not over yet...there is no way to yet determine who would win the Division in a "tie-breaker."

Here are the next steps if the first 4 end up with 2 teams still tied:

5. Strength of victory.

6. Strength of schedule.

7. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.

8. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.

9. Best net points in common games.

10. Best net points in all games.

11. Best net touchdowns in all games.

12. Coin toss

Hey mike whats ur breakdown off the jets after the pittsburg win what are our wildcard and playoff picture whats ur prediction of the jets both regular and post season

Michael Willis profile image

Michael Willis Hub Author 17 months ago

@st.john- The NY Jets really needed that win at Pittsburgh. It seems that the Jets were just showing up for games after the fast start to the season. The offense stalled.

The Jets will have to revive their passing game if they want to make a deep playoff run. I do see the Jets in the playoffs as a wildcard team.

The way the offense is playing right now, I don't see the Jets in the AFC Championship Game. The Jets offense would need a big time lift off if they want to make it to the Super Bowl.

The Steelers and the Patriots are both in the AFC Conference. They could only meet in the AFC Championship Game. The winner would then advance to the Super Bowl to meet the winner of the NFC Championship Game.
