Who is NOTA? Notavocal
Thanks to the vocal singing competition TV reality show, "The Sing-Off," America was able to see what amazing music can be made by just the human voice. Barber-Shop Style singing has long been known for the richness and depth of vocal harmonies without any musical instruments. This unique style of singing has reached a new level with the sound of musical instruments being made by only the human voice.
Nota has a very unique Latin salsa rhythm sound that won over the viewers in the acapella competition and got them a $100,000 cash prize with a recording contract with Epic Records/Sony Music.
Nota is 6 puerto rican (boricuas) guys who have been singing for over 15 years in different vocal groups. Nota is a Latin vocal band that fuses different music styles and reinvents musical instruments with only the use of their voices. As Puerto Ricans, they bring alive a blend of salsa, hip-hop, reggae, r&b and meringue, with a hint of jazz. This is what NOTA calls vocal fusion.

Latin Music Vocal Band shows diversity
Nota showed throughout the competition their musical diversity with each song selection. On the first show of the TV reality series, Nota was the first group to perform and we heard, "I'm Yours."The high bar standard was set from the beginning with this awesome display of vocal talent. Nota had made its mark to start.
The second night of competition Nota performed the Jay Sean hit "Down"and amazed everyone. Unbelievable rhythm and smoothness with R&B flavor to the song. You didn't even miss the fact there were no musical instruments in the background. The band member's ability to mix singing with being able to vocally sound like musical instrument with only 6 members is phenomenal. Nota also performed a second song on night #2. The performed the Bee Gees mega hit, "Stayin' Alive" and wowed the crowd even more.
The third night of competition each group remaining again had 2 songs to perform. A Jackson Five medley was another outstanding performance by Nota. The judges panel got to select one of the songs each group was to perform. Ben Folds chose the song "Sledge Hammer," by Peter Gabriel. Nota members were shocked it seemed by the selection and were not familiar with this song. But, being the talented singers and performers they were, worked the song selection out and gave a brilliant performance. The percussions, made by vocals only, were fantastic.
Finals-Three groups remained; Beelzebubs, Voices of Lee and Nota. A 2-hour Finals with much anticipation for the first season winner of The Sing-Off. Special guest Natasha Beddingfield, Bobby McFerrin and Smokey Robinson. The show was filled with great perfomances leading up to the announcement of the winner of the competition. Finally, the time came and to the delight of the audience Nota was crowned the winner of The Sing-Off 2009.

I heard Jay Sean sing his hit "Down" on the Jimmy Kimmel Live show last night for the first time. No offence to Jay Sean, but I loved Nota's version of the song way better.
Nota has on their web page (I have linked above "Home") their songs from The Sing Off for download on ITunes. I haven't checked it out yet, but I sure hope it would be the entire song and not just the snippets like they did on the sing-off competition show.
