The Super Bowl trophy, named the Lombardi Trophy, comes back home to the team of the legendary Packers Head Coach Vince Lombardi. The Packers offense and defense were too much for the Pittsburgh Steelers to handle in the biggest event of the year.

Aaron Rodgers and his receivers made brilliant plays and the Packers defense was the better defense in the game creating 3 crucial turnovers that resulted in points. The highly touted Steelers defense was constantly on it heels, especially in the secondary. The Packers exploited the Steelers weakness in their defense to their 4th Super Bowl title.

The Packers had to overcome major injuries to players all through the NFl football season and the Super Bowl was no exception. The Packers lost Pro Bowler Charles Woodson before the half with a broken collarbone. Donald Driver

Packers vs Steelers 2011 Super Bowl 45 Highlights

Super Bowl Highlights-Recap

The Green Bay Packers were supposed to be the inexperienced team that would fold under the pressure of the Super Bowl media and distractions. The emotions would cause the downfall and allow the Pittsburgh Steelers to claim their 7th Super Bowl Championship ring & trophy. The Steelers were all business-like as they entered the game. The Packers were the team led by their emotions and it carried onto the football field.

First Half

The Packers won the coin toss to begin the game, but chose to defer to the second half. Most were surprised by this move since the Packers offense had been on fire in the NFL playoffs. Mike McCarthy chose to show confidence in his defense and set the tone for the game.

After the teams exchanged a couple of possessions the Packers began to find their momentum and Aaron Rodgers and jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter in a 24 second span.

Aaron Rodgers hit Jordy Nelson with a 29-yd TD. The next Steelers possession, Nick Collins intercepted Ben Roethlisberger and returned for a 37-yd TD. The Packers lead 14-0.

The Steelers finally drove down the field for a field goal to draw within 14-3. The Packers struck again as Rodgers found Greg Jennings for a 21-yd TD strike to expand the lead 21-3. The Steelers were able to answer to trail at the halftime 21-10.

The Packers offense was having it's way with the vaulted Steelers defense. The Packers defense was up to the task holding down the Steelers.

Second Half

Showing the heart of a experienced Championship team, the Steelers held the Packers on their first possession and methodically moved down the field with Rashard Mendenhall rushing for an 8-yd TD to close the gap at 21-17. Momentum had begun to swing in favor of the Pittsburgh Steelers. Now the Steelers defense would have to find a way to get after Rodgers and slow down his receivers.

Rodgers once again found his favorite wide receiver Greg Jennings for an 8-yd TD early in the 4th quarter to expand the Pack's lead to 28-17. The Steelers came back half way in the 4th quarter to close within 28-25. Roethlisberger hit Mike Wallace with a 25-yd TD and converted a 2-pt. conversion to close the game within a field goal.

The Packers had a chance to seal the game with just over 2 minutes left in the game, but were forced to kick a field goal to push their lead to 31-25 at the 2:07 mark. This would leave the Pittsburgh Steelers one last chance to pull out the Super Bowl comeback win. Something that Ben Roethlisberger has excelled at well in his career.

The Steelers had 1:59 to go, 1 timeout and 87 yards to go to pull out the win. The Steelers never made it passed mid-field as 3 incomplete passes fell to the ground. The Packers ran out the game clock to claim the Super Bowl XLV Title.

Great article. They were my favorite team to watch last year, other than of course my Seahawks. Gotta love what they got going on out there in Green Bay this year as well. Thanks for the read!

Thanks for reading. The Green Bay Packers may end up making history this year. Can they go undefeated (16-0) and then repeat as Super Bowl Champions?

The Packers have a real good chance, especially if the defense can toughen up just a little.
