Politicians Should Come With A Warning Label On Them

The 2010 Political Elections will make historical statements. The American Citizens are fed up with the “business as usual” in Washington D.C. The “back-door-deals” and run-away spending that benefits Corporate America has allowed the American Economy to fall into one of the worst Economic Recession ever in history.

The Obama Health Care Reform agenda began with high hopes that Americans would finally be able to receive an affordable and quality health care. Then the “politics” became involved in the process of the health care issue. The Health Care Industry went all out with funding to protect their “profit line” in this process. Profits of business must outweigh the needs of the American people.

Politicians are strong-armed by Lobbyists to vote for Legislation that protects the interests of Banks, Health Care Industry and Special Interests Groups in Corporate America.

“Either support our agendas or there will be no campaign funding to support you for re-election!”

The Election Campaign has begun for the upcoming elections. Those in Congress (the Senate and House of Representatives) will be held accountable for their recent actions.

The American Public is set to make a sweeping change in Washington with their right to vote. Numerous political candidates have thrown their names into the ring to represent the people with a renewed voice that will be heard.

The Obama Health Care Reform Bill (The Senate Bill version) was passed through the House by a simple majority vote and now goes through Reconciliation process. The U.S. Constitution has been set aside to push through a Bill that many Americans want to stop and for Legislators to sit down and get this right. Since Politicians are ignoring the will of the People, "red-flags" are waving and is a sign of a Politician to be held accountable at the election poll.

Political Campaign Promises

Politicians will make promises to voters to get your votes for election. What will they actually do if elected?
Politicians will make promises to voters to get your votes for election. What will they actually do if elected?

Political Campaign Rhetoric Begins

“I will represent You, the American people.”

“I will not be a part of the same old Washington Politics.”

“I will not be like the Incumbent.”

“I am for Change in the way things in Washington are done.”

“I will be bi-partisan…not vote only for my political party.”

“Blah,blah,blah…..Yadaa,yadaa,yadaa…”

How many times have you heard these promises from political candidates? It’s the same message every election year. It has been the same results once a political candidate was elected. The voters are forgotten and the Lobbyists, Special Interests Groups, Republican and Democrat Party Affiliations become more important than the people who elected them to office.

The American Vote is a Voice in Washington

The American Citizen Vote

How do you choose which Political Candidate to cast your vote for?

  • I vote down Party Line! (Republican, Democrat, etc.)
  • I vote by how I feel about the person.
  • I do research and vote by the political record of the candidate on issues.
  • I vote to kick out the political incumbent.
  • I don't vote.
See results without voting

Register to Vote-Americans Right to Vote

Register to Vote if you have not. It is your Constitutional right. It is a chance for You, the American Citizen to have a say in what happens in Washington and Who will be in Washington. The only way to get the message across to elected Politicians is to vote everyone of them out of office if they go against the voice of the people. If politicians that go against the will of the people are voted out of office every time this happens, eventually your voice will be heard! It is up to the American people to force a change in Washington Politics, not the elected officials.

Whether you vote for a candidate that is affiliated with Republican Party, Democrat Party, Independent Party, Liberetarian Party, Tea Party or the new Coffee Party…choose the best Candidate and just Vote! Don’t be stuck in the ideology of being a conservative or a liberal, left wing or right wing. The U.S. Constitution gives every American the right to vote and it is up to you to exercise that right.

Vote for the Candidate that will serve the American People, not the Political Party he or she is affiliated with. Many will make the mistake of voting for all candidates of one political party without knowing anything about who the person is or what their stance is on any of the political issues. Vote for the Best Person!

Before you make up your mind about the political candidate you will be casting your vote for in this year’s upcoming elections, read through the “red-flags” of politicians in this article.

Let politicians know

-You are the reason they got elected.

-You are the one whom they represent.

-You will hold them accountable.

-You are their Boss.

-You will “fire” them.

-You matter!

Voting Record

Anyone can find information on how each political candidate has voted on issues. Take the time to research and see how he or she has voted. Did the candidate vote in a manner that supported your views or did the candidate vote with “party lines?”

Frequently Absent

Attendance

Check their attendance record in Congressional meetings, whether State or National level. If the candidate has been absent often then you will know they are more interested in “their personal interest” rather than the people they represent.

Campaign Funding and Fundraisers

Campaign Funding

Campaign funds are a necessity for those Candidates that want to get their name out to the people they are trying to get support and votes from. To finance the political campaigns, Candidate will have campaign fundraisers.

Fundraising is a critical part of any political campaign. The Media is the best way and can be expensive. Travels across districts or one’s state have to be paid for. Where does the funding come from? This should be public record. Check for “Who” are the largest contributors. This can give you a clue to whom the candidate is beholding to if elected. Are the campaign funds from individuals, businesses or activists groups?

Expensive Fund Raising Dinner Banquets

Invitation only, high dollar donations to fundraiser campaign dinners for the affluent in society. Politicians separate those with money from those who have less money. This should send up a red-flag immediately. This will indicate to whom the politician will set his priorities in his role as a political leader.

Politician not Available

Accessibility

The Candidate should be available to the general public. You should have access to speak or write to the person who is seeking an elected office. Are you able to make contact with your candidate? Do you keep getting the message, “He is out or in a meeting” or “May I take a message?”

How many times have you mailed a hand written letter or sent an e-mail through the internet to your local politician and never got a response or if you did, you received an auto-response e-mail something like,"...your contact is important to me and I will respond as soon as I can. Thank you for your support..." And there is no further reply. You just got the political "brush-off."

The candidate may be busy at times, but the serious candidate can and will get back to constituents through a number of ways. When the people the politician serves means something to him or her, time for response and interaction will be a top priority with the political leader.

Political Associations

Political Associations

Which former or existing Politician does the candidate associate with? The phrase, “You are known by the people you associate with,” holds true here, especially in Politics. If you want an x-ray vision into whom the candidate may be, look at those in political office he is associated with. You will see a glimpse of what to expect. If you disagree with the former politician, you will not want this candidate in political office.

The Career Politician vs Political Servant for the People

photocredit:freewebs.com
photocredit:freewebs.com

Career Politicians

A person who chooses to run for public office should have the ideology to serve the people. The best Candidate for your support will serve only for those he or she represents. Whether the service is for one term elected or several terms, the only goal is for service.

Most Politicians see this as a career. As in any career, one looks for financial success, job security and acceptance. In politics, choices may need to be made for the “politician’s job security” and/or “acceptance by political colleagues” rather than the will of the people.

Many political candidates have prepared through college degrees and by working for other elected officials for only one goal in life; a career in politics. This type of candidate may not have the proper perspective to represent the general public. Someone who has worked their way up the same as everyday Tom and Sally will be more in touch of the needs of the people than those who have their eyes set on the power and status of a Career Politician.

Communication Skill of the Politician to the People

Does the Candidate answer a question directly and honestly or dance around the subject with big words to avoid the issue?

The candidate that will not speak clearly and directly in as simple of words as possible has something to hide!

Does the candidate express his or her views clearly so everyone understands exactly where they stand on issues without any doubts?

Double-talk from any candidate is huge “Red-Flag” that this Candidate should not be in public office! Avoidance of answering any questions or taking a stance on an issue should tell people that this is not the Candidate for them.

Unrealistic Promises-The Smooth Talker- The Candidate that campaigns and makes an over abundant amount of promises to be agreeable with everyone and to attract votes is not being realistic. This candidate is the one who could sell "ocean front property to someone in the middle of an Arizona desert!"

The Candidate is one voice in a legislative session. He or she may try to carry out promises made to the people, but must do so with others in the same elected capacity. The Candidate knows this and should be extremely honest about this fact.

Personal Connection

Is the Candidate willing to personally speak to constituents? Candidates that keep themselves completely separated from those they seek votes from will be the same if elected.

Does the Candidate make eye contact with you when speaking or being spoken to? Shows respect for you the voter and that you are being heard.

The Media Politics

The TV, radio and all other media outlets are beginning to flood with campaign ads for supporting political candidates and ads attacking other politicians. The media frenzy will continue from now until the elections. The choice you have to make is whether or not to listen and believe what you read and hear.

Political Candidates and Incumbents will pull out the stops with TV Ads to advertise their favorable qualities and actions. The commercials and Ads will highlight the side of the candidate that they believe will convince the voters that they are in touch with the public’s needs. There will also be the commercials from challengers and activists that will highlight the failures and actions of a candidate that goes against the will of the people and their best interest.

Blanche Lincoln campaign ad tells voters what Washington's like these days

The salesman pitch and PR (Public Relations) gimmicks will be utilized to garner your support and your vote on Election Day. Professionally produced and scripted commercials are designed to influence the voting public. There will be arranged photo shots and speeches to shine a positive light on the Candidate. Words and phrases like Family, protect our elderly and the best of all, “for your children” slogans will be proclaimed to influence you to see this Candidate as a “Savior” to the people they seek votes from.

Blanche Lincoln, a Democrat Senator from Arkansas is up for re-election this year and is challenged by numerous candidates. She has decided to use a humorous political ad campaign using children to describe the atmosphere in Washington D.C. Political critics have called it exploiting children to gain votes.

Bill Halter, an Arkansan Democratic challenger to Blanche Lincoln has publicly questioned some of her claims in the commercial as opposite of what she has done in Washington with her Senate Seat.

Candidates should be held accountable for the actions while serving the people in Washington.

Research and do your homework on a candidate before making a decision about whom you will vote for. Do not fall victim to the propaganda that will be flooded all over the TV airways and internet.

Divide and Conquer Political Strategy

One way Washington Politics will continue as it always has is for the American people to become confused and frustrated by the entire political mess and make bad judgments with their votes.

This is the goal of the “Powers that Be.” Political strategy will be to divide the American public over issues, whether true or false in an attempt to allow a candidate that is acceptable to the Political Machine in place in Washington politics.

Smear Campaign Politics

Negative Campaign Ads flood the media to attack a candidate’s opponent instead of explaining his own stance on the real issues that matter. Political Campaign Ads are filled with half-truths, words and comments taken out of context and twisted to diminish another Candidate's reputation for self gain.

Campaigning has become more about who has the best media production team than who gets their political platform out to the people.

Scare Tactics Campaigns

The worst and lowest of the campaign strategies is the use of “Scare-tactics” used in Campaign Ads. Fear is a great motivational tool that Politicians will resort to for the purpose of winning an election at any cost. These types of Politicians have no concerns for the truth or the American people.

The only agenda is to win at any cost. They serve for their own agendas and use the American people’s fears to propel themselves into political power.

An Online Writer I would Recommend

Bob McCarty Writes

Because he believes nothing is more dangerous than a politician, Robert "Bob" McCarty launched the WARNING LABELS ON POLITICIANS™ campaign, an effort that targets candidates seeking the White House in 2008, regardless of political party -- Democrat, Republican or Independent:

"Warning labels already appear on drugs, cigarettes, pesticides and other items that can negatively impact a person's health and well-being," McCarty explained. "So why not require similar warning labels on those members of society - politicians - who have proven to be as dangerous - or more dangerous - than many items already required to carry warning labels!"

All your points are well-taken Michael, but unfortunately politicians don't come with a warning label. It is up to every citizen to participate and become self-informed and self-educated. I think the old saying "use it or lose it" applies to freedom just as much now as it ever did.

Great hub!

Thanks Madame X. You are so correct. It would be easier if there was an easy to read label, but we have to educate ourselves and then make decisions.

Our Vote is a serious issue that should not be taken lightly just as Who we vote for also.

A Red Flag I need and should add to this article is "Those who Ignore the U.S. Constitution to "Deem" a Health Bill into Law as Nancy Pelosi is trying to do without a Vote from the House or Senate. I know in my decisions I will from now on "red-flag" any candidate who goes along with this atrocity.

The U.S. Constitution is to protect us, the American Citizens from this type of Government tactics to take control of the American people.

I noted your poll about halfway down the page, and selected "I do research and vote by the political record of the candidate on issues." I used to do that, but no more.

In the future, my prime criteria for representatives will be whether or not they have in place ways to present legislation (with summary) to their constituents and interactivley obtain feedback on how we feel about the proposed law. How I feel about any one issue is far less inmportant than knowing that my representaive is making an effort to represent (its in the job description), rather than rule. Our job is to vote out or recall the ones that don't do their job.

Michael, Couldn't agree with you more. The main problem with the people in the Zoo (D.C.) that is, as I see it, is: The corrupt self serving attitude that exists. They become so entrenched and will continue on that track until term limits are established. Even if we had another viable party, perhaps called the "Conservatives;" we would eventually have the same situation that we have now. A honest Politician if any exist would soon be contaminated by the majority; if he didn't fall in line, he would not be able to get anything done. The good old boy concept! Senators and Congressmen should be required to undergo annual "Job performance reviews" as we did in private industry; in order to keep their jobs. They also should not be able to exempt themselves from laws and regulations that they create for we the worker bees, that pay their salaries. More could be said but we need a "clean sweep," I don't see them killing the Golden Goose. By the way I have recently joined hubs, a lot of my interests are similar to yours, perhaps not as eloquently!
